BIOGRAPHY

Versatility and experience are two words that jump to mind when describing pianist Dave King. Beginning lessons in classical piano and theory at an early age, Dave completed his ARCT in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music at the age of 18, and his Bachelor's of Music four years later at the University of Western Ontario. Studying with some of the top piano instructors in Canada, he honed his playing under the tutelage of Andrew Markow, John Paul Bracey and Stephan Sylvestre. Not satisfied with only a background in classical piano, Dave was introduced to the pipe organ by Kerry Skinner and jazz piano by Mike Janzen.

Growing up in the church, Dave quickly began leading the music at worship services, both on the piano and the organ. He excels at both traditional and contemporary worship, either playing and singing himself, or leading a worship band. Dave has had many years of experience leading musical worship for churches in a variety of denominations and is highly regarded wherever he plays. He is most active filling in for Ruth Fazal at Little Trinity Anglican Church in downtown Toronto.

Pop music has always been of interest to Dave. He began playing in bands while in high school and studied song writing at university with jazz guitarist Andrew Scott. At one master class, Dave had the opportunity to perform one of his own songs for acclaimed Canadian song-writer Stephan Moccio (Celine Dion, Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban). Since then Dave has continued to write and is currently recording his debut album, Listening Through The Night.

Over the last 6 years Dave has been active as a piano teacher, accompanist and performer as well as continuing to compose and lead worship. During his time at Western he accompanied many students; both vocalists and a variety of instrumentalists. Performance highlights included joining singer/songwriter Mike Fluit in playing to a packed house at Western's campus bar, The Wave. He joined Mike again playing a few songs on the stage of Kitchener's Centre In The Square to an audience of over twelve hundred. The last few years Dave has also headlined his own fundraising events, leading his band in a mixture of originals and covers to raise money for the Yonge Street Mission (www.ysm.ca). Recently Dave has received an increasing number of opportunities to perform at weddings and other special events. His flexibility, ability to play from a large and varied repertoire as well as his easy going nature has endeared him to everyone he was worked with.

Dave King currently resides in Waterloo, Ontario.
